3.1 - Approach

What is coaching?

  • Personalised training for companies wishing to improve the performance of an individual or a team
  • Coaching differs from consultancy in that it is the individual who, with the assistance of the coach, is able to improve self-awareness and build on strong points to offset any weaknesses, leading ultimately to an inner sense of well-being

3.2 - Zuber Conseil’s professional ethics

  • Before work commences, the coach will formally agree the objectives of the mission with the manager responsible within the trainee’s company. Confidentiality rules and other legal protections will be defined at the same time. These rules can be refined as the mission progresses.
  • The individuals or groups with whom the coach is working are considered to be part of a wider system. Coaching will always be performed in the overall interests of this wider system.
  • The trainee will be informed in real-time if issues arising out of the mission fall outside the coach’s field of expertise. In such circumstances other professionals will be recommended.
  • In all circumstances the coach will refuse to assist the trainee if the proposed activity contravenes French law or infringes the rights of other people.
  • The coach is entirely responsible for his or her operational decisions.
  • The coach undertakes to receive regular training and to remain well-informed about research and advances made in their fields of expertise.

3.3 - Objectives

What are the objectives of a coaching programme?
For individuals, coaching may be the right solution in a number of different circumstances:

  • To help a young person who is acquiring additional responsibilities to become self-confident, more independent, to discover their own way of asserting themselves within the overall management style of the company.
  • To support an individual who is experiencing difficulties with their position or behaviour, to clarify their role and improve their working relationships.
  • To support a project manager who, without hierarchical authority, is required to manage an important cross-functional mission.
  • Etc…
For a team:
  • To help a team face up to challenges through the strengthening of cohesiveness.
  • To support a team that is dissatisfied with the way it operates and/or with its position within its environment.
In all cases, coaching combines the interests of both the coached and the company.

3.4 - How does it work?

  • A preliminary meeting is convened to discuss the initiative: its content, rules and organisation. The root causes must be stated and an initial analysis performed, including objectives and timescales.
  • Coaching is performed through short, regular sessions (approximately 2 hours per fortnight, for example) during which each key point is reviewed, in light of the experience of the previous period. For a team, the coach assists with both the team’s work and its interactions.
  • Analysis made during sessions is examined in detail and lessons learnt are consolidated during subsequent sessions.
  • A progress plan is implemented based on the analysis and any significant events, to be followed by the group over the coming period.
  • Exercises can be created for testing and practice purposes.
  • Coaching generally lasts for 3 months or more and concludes with an evaluation session to recap progress made and to establish areas that trainees will continue to work on.
